Great video, Catherine. There is nothing wrong with wanting more space for your family and more storage. You do what's best for you. I'm in CA, where it is so expensive for everything. When we bought our condo, it was supposed to be our 5 year home. We are still here 19 years later. We only have 1 kid, so it's fine, and it's almost paid for. We do have 2 bathrooms and a garage, so that helps a lot. Hope you have a great week ❤

You need to do what’s best for you. We lived in the smallest 2 bedroom, 1 bath Georgian for 15 years. We were bursting at the seams after my second son was born. Our one bathroom was upstairs and very small and inconvenient. I told my husband either we add on or move. We moved to a 3 bedroom, 2 bath house. Now that both of my sons are gone and married, we have a guest bedroom and I have a sewing room!

When you think about it, how much space do you really need? How much STUFF do you need? My family of 7 lived in a 1350 Sq ft home with a basement. I shared a small bedroom with two of my sisters and the other two were in the other bedroom and my parents were in the last one. I had a 3rd of a closet and 4 drawers for my clothes. We didn't have a TON of toys but we had plenty of books, art supplies, etc. Did lots of things as a family. Just something to think about. A lot can be minimized and really, not every child needs their own room. You're doing great! Just keep at it. Think hard before you spend a lot of money.

I use a dresser as my entertainment system!

I use underbed storage boxes for sheets etc. Use the space!

I have a dresser that I put all of my projects and blankets in. All of my clothes are either hung in the closet or folded neatly on the top shelf of the closet. Because of the way I store my clothes I have decluttered so much clothing I wasn't wearing because I could see it and I share a closet with my husband who of course needs room for his clothes as well.

I know your frustration, l love my home but we have no storage. Our closets are very small and we don't have an attic or basement.😊❤

In Germany its normal , the clothes are in the closet . We don't have a "dresser" . Sideboards are for everything. 😄

I have an older brother, and growing up, we only had one bathroom. It was always super frustrating because he would take so long 🤦‍♀️ so I see why you guys need a second bathroom.

We have two small non bedroom closets. One for shoes, one for literally everything else. Medicine, games, toys, linens, backstock, and some pet stuff.

I have a very large home yes office gym ect and I have a Junk drawer on every floor...it's needed

I feel for your mom cause I have a lot of the same stuff mostly decor and sentimental things. Depression glass that is what that is but I think it has gone down in value. I have a couple of pieces and just think it is pretty.

▫️Great video! I’ve been decluttering for 11 years now. I continue to make decluttering rounds thru everything. I continue to f8n$ more to declutter. ▫️Cords. I started labeling cords when we got them. Sometimes with a label from my label maker. Some with a Velcro cord wrap that includes a writable tag surface on one end. I keep cords in a coffee table drawer near my charging place. We have a big stash of cords in the garage that we need to dispose. ▫️Junk drawer. We call ours a utility drawer. Because we’re fancy like that! 😂 As a child of the 50s the word “utility” was used a lot. We had a utility room, utility closet, utility cart in the pantry and utility drawer in the kitchen. It stuck with me. Our drawer is organized much like yours. We don’t have an office space and do desk work at the kitchen table - so desk supplies are in the utility drawer.

Doing this now. It's rough. I feel you.

With the stained lazy Susan cabinets, I would take it apart & paint it.

In reply to your cord question: I keep a label machine in a desk drawer near my high traffic area and when I get some thing in with a cord I type it on the label and stick to the cord. My cordless, vacuum, my cordless spin scrubber, Kindle charging cord etc

Love this decluttering series of your parents' kitchen. It would be great to see you tackle the other rooms of their house. I think many of us can relate to having to declutter decades worth of belongings, not just in our own houses but in our parents' houses, too.

Your mom has done such a good job making decisions about what she could get rid of. It's wonderful that you have been able to help your mom out like that - you two make a fantastic team!

Probably a lot of the things in your mom's kitchen were handed down to her from older relatives. So she has the stuff that she bought and was gifted, herself, plus many of the things that her parents and in-laws had in their kitchens. It all adds up over time.

For the expiration date, I will guess: 1999. This is a good reminder that I haven't gone through our spice cabinet in quite a while!

You are doing a beautiful job for your mom. One thing that I will suggest is making sure to keep all items within an easy reach for your mom. If she has to climb up a step stool to reach a food storage container, for example, and that is something that she uses a lot, it's best to keep those things down lower. In fact, I went through and took everything off of the highest shelves in my kitchen because I'll be turning 60 soon and I just don't need anything that high up in my kitchen anymore and, as it turns out, I wasn't using the stuff stored on those high shelves so it all got donated.

An absolutely satisfying decluttering compilation. I can relate to accumulating a bunch of stuff over months / years & how freeing it is to declutter what doesn' t serve you in this moment in life. I've been on a decluttering journey for years with paper as my nemesis 😂. ❤ that you are now helping your parents declutter. Thank you for the continued motivation.
